World Premature Week

A Premature baby is a baby that is born before 37 weeks of precnancy.
Premature birth is something you would like to try to avoid or manage as carefully as possible.
The last few weeks in the womb are important to your baby’s full development.

The World Health Organisation says one in ten babies are born preterm and many cases is unknown.

But some of the common risk factors  to preterm births are issues with your uterus or cervix, twins or multiples, diabetes, high blood pressure which can develep into preeclapsia, smoking during your pregnancy and being over or under weight.

If your baby is born preterm it can lead to longer hospital stay, long term and short term complication.
The more premature and underdevelep your baby is, the more likely they are to have issues when they are born.
Some babies will be in an incubator with medical support.
Some babies will spend longer time in the unit than other.
Most premature babies can lead a completely healthy live.
